Napping is currently being hailed as pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. Napping is good for all the things we already know sleep is good for: health, emotional well-being, memory, alertness, productivity, and so on. It is difficult to find time and space for napping in modern society, but perhaps in time, as the benefits of napping become more and more well-documented, there will be a shift to more biphasic sleep patterns that incorporate napping. As with everything, individuals will vary: there will be differences between people for when within the 24 hour sleep-wake cycle it is best to nap, and how much time they should spend asleep, but a general rule of thumb is a small 20 minute nap in the afternoon would be beneficial to most people.
